We made it happen

With funding from and in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norwegian People’s Aid has been a leader in the global umbrella organization Cluster Munitions Coalition and the international campaign work to ban cluster bombs. This process culminated in 94 countries signing the Convention on Cluster Munitions in Oslo on 3-4 December 2008.

The photographs for the exhibition and the film were taken by Anderson during tours together with Norwegian People’s Aid’s mining department in Lebanon, Jordan, Laos, Bosnia, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. The visits to areas hit by cluster bombs and to victims of cluster bombs were short and hectic, but equally Anderson delivered respectful reportage images that go in depth and really make the audience have to see the victims and their everyday life in the eyes. When Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre opened the photo exhibition in the Town Hall Gallery, he described Anderson’s photos as images “that move politics”: “Moments of reality, captured by camera lenses, moments of pain, loss and vulnerability. Several thousand miles from where we are now, but so close, so close. Face to face…”
