For several years, I travelled with Norwegian People’s Aid mine-clearance teams to places where the consequences of cluster munitions were still part of everyday life.

In Lebanon, Jordan, Laos, Bosnia, Cambodia and Vietnam, I photographed and filmed the people I met — mine clearers, survivors, families and communities living with weapons left behind long after a conflict had ended.

The work became We Made It Happen, a photographic exhibition and film created as part of Norwegian People’s Aid’s international campaign against cluster munitions.

The project was shown during the diplomatic process that led to the Convention on Cluster Munitions, adopted in Dublin in 2008 and opened for signature in Oslo later that year.

When Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre opened the exhibition at Oslo City Hall Gallery, he described the photographs as:

“images that move politics.”
